About BSides312
BSides312 seeks to be a collaborative space for the community, by the community. We are not made of members but instead made of participants whose unique contributions are valued equally. Some may bring specialization in hardware, a focus in organizational skills, or even bringing friends along to fuel and expand the conversation.
If you and your organization are as passionate about the security community as we are and would like to sponsor our event, please reach out questions [@] bsides312.org. To show our thanks, sponsors will be welcome to chat about themselves and their organization, fostering connections with the BSides312 community.

Code of Conduct
All attendees, speakers, sponsors and volunteers at our conference are required to agree with the following code of conduct. Organizers will enforce this code throughout the event. We are expecting cooperation from all participants to help ensuring a safe environment for everybody.
The BSides312 series of events are open, inclusive forums for the sharing of ideas. BSides312 is dedicated to a harassment-free conference experience for everyone. BSides312 participants include speakers, vendors, makers, tinkerers, families, students, and everyone else wanting to experience BSides312 events and be part of the BSides312 community.
It is important for participants to step beyond prejudices, societal norms, and other perspectives that lead to disrespect for people and groups. Everyone is welcome at BSides312 events, regardless of race, class, gender, age, ethnicity, religion, political beliefs, disability, sexual orientation, personal appearance, education level, text editor choice, and other aspects of who we are.
In short: BSides312 is a space for tolerance and respect.
BSides312 strongly values free speech and encourages talks that address hard topics. BSides312 also encourages all participants to be mindful of their words and actions and how they may affect others, including being open to feedback.
BSides312 has a zero-tolerance harassment policy. Harassment includes, but is not limited to: deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, deliberate misgendering, disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, unwelcome sexual attention, or any other disruptive behavior in or around the BSides312 conference space.
Certain groups are held to a higher standard of behavior. Those groups include speakers, volunteers and vendors. These groups are expected to follow all BSides312 conference rules and Code of Conduct guidelines regardless of other roles in the community or personal friendships or connections. For example, volunteers are expected to behave professionally and fairly during their shifts and vendors are encouraged to promote their products or ideas based on their own merits, not on the appearance of their staff.
The conference staff reserves the right to take appropriate action at any time. This may include ejection from the conference without refund or not being allowed to attend future events.
If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have related concerns, we encourage you to contact a member of conference staff immediately.
BSides312 would like to thank HOPE for usage of their Code of Conduct.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Why BSides312?
Bsides312 embodies the essence of the Security BSides ethos, rooted in a desire to empower individuals who often go unheard in the dynamic realm of cybersecurity events. Just as the original BSides emerged from the overflow of talent at DEF CON, our Chicago-based initiative arose from a recognition of the untapped potential within our own community. We understand the passion and drive of countless individuals eager to share their insights, yet constrained by limited opportunities. It's important to note that our mission is not to compete or detract from other local initiatives, rather, we aim to complement and expand the landscape of opportunities available to the Chicago cybersecurity community. By creating a welcoming platform, we aim to uplift and amplify voices that might otherwise remain unheard, fostering a culture of generosity and reciprocity within the vibrant cybersecurity community that has enriched us all.

Two BSides in the same city? Is that allowed?
Yes. In fact, Security BSides International approved Delhi and Los Angeles to have two Security BSides, as well as BSides312. Of course, the requirement is that each event coordinates with one another to space out events 5-6 months apart, don't poach sponsors or do anything that prevents the two events to coexist.
-
Is there a dress code?
We need you to have clothes on most of your body, including shoes. Other than that, we don’t really care what you are wearing as long as it doesn’t potentially cause an injury to someone else.
-
Are there photography restrictions?
Generally speaking, any camera other than the camera on your phone requires media credentials. If you want to shoot professionally or cover an event for a publication, you will need to get permission from BSides312 to get a media pass.
